A terrible session at the gym last night. I struggled to run for 15 minutes, managed to walk for a further 5 before giving up. Tried the stepper and managed about 3 minutes on there.

Did some weights, but my arms felt really feeble and I struggled to lift anything as heavy as normal.

Useless.

I was out to lunch yesterday as well, and although I made the most sensible choice of meal that I could, I still needed to go to the gym and work it off.

On the up-side - we went to see Wall-E and it was brilliant. Never have I enjoyed a film so much that has hardly any dialogue. It was funny, sad, poignant, laugh out loud hilarious, and brilliantly put together. The credits were pretty cool too if you stayed long enough to watch all of them. You realise the sheer amount of volume of people that work on these sorts of films - they credited everyone, even facilities and security staff. And they even made note of the babies that had been born during the whole productive process - there were a lot, and quite a few sets of twins too!

Tonight I am weighing in, and then going to see Mamma Mia, which everyone I know who's been to see it, has thoroughly enjoyed. Besides it has Colin Firth in it.

I think Nick was slightly embarrassed at how excited I was when there was a trailer for High School Musical 3....

Tuesday (or Chores-day as it shall now be known) is always a crazy day. Usually I would go to the supermarket after work, get home, unpack everything, empty all the bins, put them out, cook dinner, and then relax - so it was always busy enough.

However, last night, seeing as we're away Friday - Sunday, I was keen to get to the gym 3 times this week, so I went again last night - then had to go to the supermarket, did a big shop (for once I was actually pleased with this retailer that I usually hate visiting, although they had no Coke Zero in a 10pk, so I had to get 2 6pks instead) - then when I got home, I found that Nick had done the bins, and then he proceeded to clean out the bottom of the fridge (which was a pool of water), and I left him reheating our vegetable biryani and boiling some eggs while I went for a shower.

It's nice to split the chores sometimes, although irrationally I feel guilty for him doing the housework. I feel like I should be taking care of him, after all he works hard, and so I want to look after him when he gets home. Craziness.

I was pleased though, because I was exhausted. I managed 60 minutes of cardio (although again, I only managed to run 15 minutes), and then did some weights and 400 sit ups.

Tonight I am going to try and run for 20 minutes - and do a full hour of cardio and then some weights again - we are out for a leaving lunch today, and then out to see Wall E tonight.

Last night I watched the episode of The Biggest Loser US Couples where they all have make-overs - and I was hit again by how far they have all come, and how well they have all done. A couple of the girls are now the same weight as me, although I think they must be shorter, or else it's the t.v., but they still look bigger than me. I really wish I could take 2 months out to go somewhere like that where I have to eat right and exercise all the time, and then come out looking fabulous. I need help with shopping and wearing the right clothes too.

So, one of the handbags I bought yesterday is quite plain, and I wanted to customise it.

Accessorize are doing some cool bag charm things, but they didn't have one in the colours I wanted, so I thought I could probably make one myself.

So - I've found a great online bead shop, and I'm filling up my virtual basket with all sorts of lovely things, when it comes to filling out the shape with some beads.

And I am at a loss as to how to connect the beads to what is called a jump ring or a split ring. On the Accessorize ones, each bead has a kind of post through it with a loop at one end, so you can just connect it onto a ring, and then attach it to your central chain.

Except this wonderful bead site doesn't have any of them - I have no idea what they're called, but I went through every option in the menu.

And there was me getting carried away thinking I could make some for friends for presents as well... and I can't even get the basics right!

Does anyone have any idea what these are called, and where I could get them from?!

I am feeling really wasteful recently, and it's getting to me. I bought some new trainers that I have since discovered aren't that comfortable (even with thin socks) and I should have got the larger size.

I bought some new running shorts that, it turns out, are too short, and my thighs rub together, which is fine for the distances I am doing now, but could get Really Uncomfortable once I'm back doing 6 mile runs or more (note the optimism!).

At the weekend I went for a Space NK make over, which was very nice and interesting, but in the flush of looking quite good, I ended up spending more than £30 on make up, adding to the $90 or so I'd already spent in Boston in Sephora on Benefit stuff. And then I went to Boots and spent another £20 on make up.

Yesterday I spent £32 on 2 new handbags from TK Maxx. One of which I am going to customise with some beads or something I think.

Anyway, I seem to be spending a lot, and on stuff that I won't use a lot. And now I need to go and spend more money on trainers and shorts that fit properly and don't hurt when I run.

In other news, I did 15min run and 30m on the cross trainer last night, so I am getting fitter again.

I was thinking at the weekend about how I had a completely different image of what my life in my 20's and 30's would be like.

I had imagined dinner parties with friends, lazy brunches at cool cafes etc. but I think I can count the number of dinner parties I've either held or been to on the fingers of one and a bit hands.

Maybe it's because we don't live in London, probably it's because we don't have any friends within an hour's driving distance. Although we do frequently try and invite people to come and stay for the weekend, including dinner and brunch the next day, but for some reason or another, it never quite happens.

I know only one friend really, Luda, who had a multitude of dinner parties and lazy brunches, picnics in parks etc. with friends, and that was because she lived in central London, and had 3 like minded housemates, and a whole network of friends in relatively close proximity.

We do spend our weekends seeing friends, but we hardly ever get to play host, and when we do, after a long week of work, it seems much easier to either cook something simple, or go out.

While I was away this weekend, Nick made himself salsa and guacamole, mojitos and Tequila and Lime flambeed scallops. We did this great cookery course last year, and came back all enthused about throwing dinner parties. Since then, we've not even had one. We tried. But then plans got changed, and we didn't do it.

Another complication is that while I know friends as couples, the men don't really know each other, and when we get together it's usually girls only, and we end up snacking and watching chick flicks than having proper meals that require time and effort.

Oh well, I've still got 8 and a bit years of my 30's left, so maybe that's plenty of time to throw a couple of dinner parties. If we can find a weekend that everyone can do....

going to the gym, or doing exercise in general, I hate hate hate the way I am feeling right now.

I feel so unfit, walking from the car park to the office brings me out in a really really unattractive sweat. I have two wobbly Buddha bellies (no offence, Buddha!) that didn't used to be as wobbly or Buddha-like.

I have more back fat, and don't feel good or comfortable in anything I wear.

I don't regret enjoying my holiday, but I can't understand why my fitness disappeared so quickly. Before we went away on holiday I was up to running 5 miles again. When I took a break from the gym in December for the same length of time, I managed to get back up to 8 miles within 2 weeks of being back at the gym.

I just feel so eugh. I guess it's motivation to keep going to the gym, although I'm away for the next couple of nights. My friend who I am staying with suggested I take my running stuff so we can go for a run on Sunday morning. I scoffed because I really shouldn't be seen in public, all beet faced and dripping lard, but I shouldn't really turn down an opportunity to burn more calories, should I.

I guess it's time to call in the personal trainer dude.

I've had a funny sort of tummy ache today. Kind of like there's too much air in it, with a slight grindy back ache (and no, it's not TOTM!).

When I went out at lunch time, I wasn't hungry, but it turned into an ache that felt like it was eating itself from the inside. That sounds gross, but it's the only way I can describe it.

I don't know what's causing it. It doesn't feel muscular from the gym.

I fear I was too hasty in my purchase of new trainers. Although they felt fine in the shop (and I had hot and therefore more swollen feet), running in them is proving problematic. My right big toe rubs, and they pinch on the heels. I think therefore that I will have to conclude that that was $110 wasted, and look out for some new ones if/when I go to New York in September.

In the meantime, I'll have to go back to my old ones.

I went to the gym again last night, 3 nights in a row, get me. I managed 15mins running this time, so I am slowly improving. I just can't believe how quickly I lost my fitness. Over December I had 4 weeks off, but managed to run 4 miles my first time back. Yet this time around I struggle to run less than half that. It's bizarre.

I have also been good and healthy in my eating, and trying to eat slowly and consciously and not eat too much. Yet it doesn't look like I will have lost anything at weigh-in tonight.

We didn't get to see Wall E last night either. I went to get tickets in my lunchbreak, but the queue was humoungous as all the kids are on hols... and I reasoned that it wouldn't be that busy in the evening if they were all going during the day.

Nick rang on his way back from having his haircut to tell me that the cinema and surrounding bars/restaurants were all jam packed, so it didn't look like we would have been able to get tickets after all. We decided to stay in and watch Fantastic Four, Rise of The Silver Surfer instead.

We're going to try and see Wall E on Sunday instead.
